Arlene and Roy wanted some extra space in their very large backyard, so our SAM10 was just perfect. The chosen position sits very nicely within a flat level part of their garden, surrounded by a small concrete block retainer wall.
We had the luxury of working at this site off-and-on, aided by the closeness to our own location.
The preparations for this shed were quite straight forward. Firstly we removed the lawn (and a few weeds...) and leveled out the soil. The more accurately the soil is leveled out at that stage the easier the rest of the following construction will be.
We then placed road base on top and constructed the base frame. Arlene and Roy had old pavers on site, quite large and heavy, which were perfect for the construction of their cabin.
We were even able to "inherit" more pavers we could use for the next install. Howzat for recycling?
One of the most common questions we get is regarding the strength of our solid timber log garden sheds. European made and engineered, they are of FAR SUPERIOR quality then any other type of garden shed available in Australia - GUARANTEED.
A good example of this are the interlocking corners - all logs are rebated and routed to the last millimeter and fit together perfectly, forming a solid construction with the highest possible structural strength.
This type of installing walls also makes the whole process much quicker, AND there is no need to line the shed inside - you will always see beautiful solid timber log on both the outside and the inside!
There are two different finishes you can choose for the outer of your cabin - oiled or painted.
The first coat of oil OR one coat of good quality primer / sealer / undercoat / stain blocker is included in the "fully installed" option. It is VERY important to fully protect your new cabin immediately after it has been built, or even during the build.
When painting your cabin please first apply a top quality "sealer/primer/undercoat/stain blocker" noting the importance of using a stain blocker type undercoat - this prevents tannin showing through the paint, this can be bothersome and quite noticeable particularly in the branch knots of the timber logs.
Arlene and Roy wanted their cabin painted - and we reckon the chosen colors look GREAT!
A bit of fresh colour makes all the difference - yes, it means a bit of "cutting in" when painting, but the end result is sensational!
The painting of this particular cabin was a work in progress for quite a few weeks due to frequent rain interruptions. Despite the normally dryer weather in May in SEQ yet another main rain event slowed down the progress on finishing the cabin.
But the wait was worth it - a relatively neutral wall and trim colour was offset with a bright orange door and window.
Painting your new cabin means a little bit more work during the initial construction and immediately after, but also means that once three coats have been applied your cabin will not need any more painting for quite a few years to come.
WE LOVE TIMBER SHEDS!
